When one is asked about visiting the most important places of America, most would begin to list off large, world-renowned cities.
What most people don’t realize, however, is that small towns are what keep our economy pushing forward.
And some small towns in Texas have a history of hauntings.
Updated 2/11/2020 – Small towns have played a huge roll in the history of our country, and some are not without evidence of that fact.
Are you interested in visiting a town that is haunted?
Look no further than these seven small towns in rural Texas.
Each one is a must see and has a little something paranormal to share…
7) Alpine, Texas
Most people come to visit Alpine for its spectacular mountain views.
But some get a little more than they bargained for in this charming little town.
A couple of year-long residents have begun to believe that Alpine is home to a poltergeist who enjoys playing tricks on tourists.
The poltergeist is known to steal jewelry, toss toiletries onto the floor, and lock tourists into their own hotel rooms at night.
6) Turkey, Texas
While some residents stand by the rich heritage of the town, others have begun to fear the strange occurrences in Turkey.
Some locals have begun to speak of suffering from visions of robed figures invading their houses at night.
A few are convinced they are not hallucinations at all, but that they are bad omens, manifested as humanly figures, and are manipulating and destroying the lives of this unassuming Texas town.
5) Marfa, Texas
Most people have heard of the bizarre ghost lights that hover over the town of Marfa.
But not many have experienced them—and an even fewer number have realized what they truly are.
Last year a Marfa native came forward and said that the Marfa Lights had come into full contact with his body one night as he had car trouble on the side of the road.
The man claims that the lights are in fact extra-terrestrials, and they spoke to him inside his mind when they approached him.
The man has since needed extensive counseling, and insists that the alien’s voice was the most disturbing thing he has ever heard.
4) Schulenburg, Texas
This town boosts a population of less than 3,000 people.
Those who visit Schulenburg get taken in by a heavenly dessert at the local sweet shop, or canned supplies at the country store.
But some folks say Schulenburg is a portal into the underworld.
Strange electromagnetic currents and paranormal sightings have occurred in the very center of downtown.
A few residents have claimed to have seen random limbs of shadowy people appear and then disappear again out of thin air.
3) Canton, Texas
Canton is a small town with a big reputation.
Every last Sunday of the month, Canton hosts a flea market that attracts visitors from all over the state.
Hundreds of thousands of people visit on that day.
And some have become privy to Canton’s secret.
According to local legend, Canton was once home to a serial killer.
Today, his spirit haunts the town, and is known for scraping at the windows of houses with his machete.
One terrified woman reported seeing him on her roof, tapping the glass of her skylight window with his knife as the ghost stared down at her.
2) Jefferson, Texas
This small town is considered to be one of the most haunted towns in all of Texas.
Numerous historical landmarks can be seen throughout town, including a museum.
Not only do residents report frequent cold spots, and disembodied voices, but some have been touched by an unseen hand while spending time in the shops.
If you want to experience multiple ghosts at once, Jefferson locals suggest checking into one of their haunted hotels, and hanging by the old houses at night.
A ghost is sure to be seen.
1) Fredericksburg, Texas
Known for its historic German heritage, today Fredericksburg is known as a cool place to visit in Texas due to its fine wines, orchards, and wildflowers.
Sounds heavenly, right?
Some believe it’s because city officials are covering up the eerie truth.
Fredericksburg is said to be haunted by a group of children, dressed in attire from the mid 1900s.
The children are often seen walking in the opposite direction of the approaching car.
If the driver attempts to stop, the children are known for shrieking until the driver leaves.
Some who have reported witnessing these kids claim their mouth appear to have been stitched up at one point.
